Fenbendazole tablets are an anthelmintic medication primarily used in veterinary medicine to treat a variety of parasitic worm infections in animals such as dogs, cats, and livestock. The tablets are available under various brand names and strengths.

Common Brands and Strengths

Fenbendazole tablets are available in different strengths, with 150mg, 222mg, 444mg, 500mg, and 1000mg being common concentrations.

  • Panacur® (or Panacur Vet): A widely recognized brand by MSD Animal Health, commonly available in 150mg tablets.

  • Wormentel: Another prominent brand with a range of strengths including 150mg, 222mg, 444mg, 500mg, and 1000mg.

  • Fensafe: Available in strengths such as 222mg and 500mg.

  • Canworm: Offered by Vetina Healthcare LLP.

Usage and Important Considerations

Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum dewormer effective against gastrointestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, lungworms, and certain tapeworms (such as Taenia genus, but not Dipylidium caninum).

  • Veterinary Use: It is approved for administration to a variety of animals, including sheep, cattle, horses, fish, dogs, and cats.

  • Human Use: While primarily a veterinary medication, it is also prescribed by doctors for human use to treat parasitic worm infections.

  • Administration: Tablets should generally be swallowed whole with food and not crushed or broken, according to some sources.

  • Prescription: Dosage and use in both humans and animals should be determined by a healthcare professional or veterinarian, as it is often a prescription guideline medicine.

  • Safety Notes: It should not be taken during pregnancy as it can be harmful to an unborn baby, and a doctor may monitor blood counts and liver function during treatment.
